Maryland Spencer is a WriteMark judge and a committee member of Plain English Power, a driving force for plain language in New Zealand. Her passion to clarify gibberish has won her two WriteMark Plain English awards and a WriteMark Award of Distinction. Graduating in Editing (hons) from the London School of Journalism, she’s been writing, editing, and designing documents for 25 years.
Maryland directs WriteBrand Communications. Her goal is to transform dry documents into an oasis of life, authenticity, and sparkle by integrating a company’s brand throughout all their content. She says: “In the vast sea of information, give yours a splash. Write your brand on the internal wallpaper, not just on the welcome mat. Engage staff and clients alike.” She’s an NZQA qualified trainer and seeks to educate people in how relational, branded content builds reputations and fattens wallets.
