Mary McLaughlin is a writer and editor based in Ōtepoti Dunedin, Aotearoa New Zealand.

She completed an Honours degree and an MA (Distinction) in English at the University of Otago and has worked in Dunedin, Melbourne, and Wellington as a researcher, university tutor, editor, plain English specialist, and communications advisor. She is currently working for the Dunedin City Council.

In 2011, Mary founded Little Red Pen, which offers coaching and mentoring, writing workshops, and editing services. She works with writers from the business, community, and academic sectors to develop their skills and create documents that have integrity and meaning.
