Barbra Kingsley, PhD, has over 20 years of experience as an award-winning information designer. She has developed plain language documents for numerous government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Veterans Benefits Administration.

Barbra’s work has won awards from the Society for Technical Communication, the National Partnership for Reinventing Government, and the National Association of Government Communicators.

Coupled with her practical experience in the context and mechanics of design, Dr Kingsley has the experience of field-testing documents with end users for both cognitive complexity and the usability of task and navigation. She has used this experience to develop practical hands-on training that conveys both the conceptual framework of the principles of design and rewriting and also its practical applications.
